Margin Bridges That Survive a Category Meeting
A practical way to show where list price, mix, and promo funding moved contribution—without drowning the room in charts.
A margin bridge that fills a slide with twelve bars rarely survives a category meeting. Strategists need a short path from last period’s contribution to this one—list price, mix, and promo funding—told in language category owners already use.
We recommend three moves only. First, hold SKU set constant when comparing periods so mix is not an accident of delists. Second, show list-price effect before promo, so deep discounts do not hide a soft base. Third, call out one or two SKUs that drove most of the change; leave the long tail for appendix work.
Printed one-pagers often work better than live screens in Bangkok meeting rooms with unreliable projectors. Bring the bridge on paper, keep the dashboard open for follow-up questions, and end with a decision: hold, adjust, or investigate.
